Fears yesterday gripped Yola, Adamawa State residents following the
discovery of 102 live ammunition and two guns tucked in the perimeter
fence of Damare Secondary School in Damere Ward of Yola, South Local
Government Area.
The residents were worried even as cases of roberies are on the increase in the area.
Eyewitness said the ammunition were discovered by children who were
playing around the area. “Some children who are playing around the area
spotted the ammunition tucked deeply inside the block holes and quickly
alerted the public. “When residents observed that they were live
ammunition, they called the police who came and demolished the fence,
leading to the discovery of large number of live ammunition and guns,”
the source said.
Police spokesman, Mohammed Ibrahim, a superintendent, confirmed the
development, saying “some children playing around the Damare Secondary
School found the weapons.
“When they sighted the weapons,they alerted the public who in turn
informed the police. The search led to the discovery of 102 live
ammunition alongside two guns”
According to him,the weapons might have been kept there by fleeing criminals just as he said so far, no arrest was made.
He, however, called on the people to intensify prayers while at the
same time assisting the police with information that would lead to the
arrest of criminals
