THE
proprietress of Lifespring Montessori School, Magodo, Lagos, Mrs.
Melvina Edeoghon, has advised parents to ensure that they do not prevail
over their children’s choices in choosing a career path.
She stated this in an interview with our
correspondent shortly after the school held its maiden inter-house
sports competition at the Lagos State University Museum playground in
Agege, Lagos.
“Gone are the days when it was not
fashionable for children to be footballers, musicians and the like. I
advise parents to study their children carefully and help them to
realise their potential to the fullest. They are to play advisory roles,
not affirmative,” Edeoghon counselled.
She also stressed the need for pupils to
have total development in school, explaining total development as
comprising the cognitive, physical, social and emotional aspects of a
child.
“We organised this sports event primarily
to ensure total development. We want to instill the spirit of
sportsmanship in pupils, and this will be a biennial event,” Edeoghon
said.
The sports competition witnessed
activities like march past, 100m race, invitation relay race, filling
the bottles, and sack race. The highpoint of the competition was the
staff and parents’ race which saw teachers and parents contesting in a
fun-filled race.
